Toronto Blue Jays Claim Fall Classic Showdown Versus defending champion Dodgers

George Springer celebrating

Springer was instrumental for the Houston Astros winning the World Series in 2017.

Canada's MLB team advanced to their maiden championship series following the 1993 season by beating the Mariners in the seventh seventh game of the AL Championship Series.

Trailing 3-1, the star outfielder delivered a three-run homer in the seventh frame, propelling the only Canadian franchise in Major League Baseball to a 4-3 series win in the series. Next up are the Los Angeles Dodgers, the team that is the defending champions, in the upcoming World Series.

"It's incredible for our team, Toronto, Canada," commented Springer, a star of the Astros team that claimed the 2017 championship. "This is such an unbelievable moment."

The veteran has now hit twenty-three October home runs, making him third all-time trailing only Ramirez (twenty-nine) and Altuve (twenty-seven).

"It's hard to imagine another person anywhere that I want up in that spot other than him with his October magic," noted manager John Schneider.

Seattle, despite leading the series two games to none and three games to two, remain the sole team never to appear in a World Series.

Mariners manager Dan Wilson said "without a doubt that it's going to sting" in the wake of his team's loss at their home ballpark, but commended their performance this season.

"They're an exceptional squad. Unfortunately that we ended up on the losing end of this game," he continued.

Toronto claimed the title on their two prior appearances in the early 90s, and will welcome the Los Angeles in the first game on this Friday.
