The Evolution of a Movement is often marked by distinct phases.

1. The Big Idea

A charismatic leader or leaders present a new and transcendent idea offering a solution for disconnected individuals.

Thus we find ourselves. Plans are in motion to challenge the establishment overseas. Pressure is mounting. Signs of trouble appear from the sidelines. A lone figure, naked, anxious, the slogan POSITIVE INTENT smeared across his chest as a symbol, has stumbled from the field and is taken aside with discretion for a temporary assignment at Derbyshire.

Do you ever miss the start, when everything was fresh? The era of early Bazball, of uninhibited aggression.

2. Love-Bombing

Team architects promise a reboot, hope for a future, camaraderie, redemption within a community who all believe in the philosophy.

What did it represent back then? Players celebrating enjoying success. Ink. Forearms. Determination. Elite male wellness energy. Of course, England’s players often say Bazball doesn’t actually exist, amusingly as it’s denied, what exactly did I just watch?

But we know its essence. It’s the batsman attempting a move so depraved it has to be pixelated. It’s the adrenaline of the leader at his peak, an expression conveying: thoughtful warrior, beard made of wood, hair woven from beaver hide, truly contemporary you half-expect to glance over and find him positioned at mid-off shirtless embracing nature.

It’s Ben Duckett often seen addressing the media, appearing as a joyful figure smartly dressed, expressing thoughts like we’re breaking down traditions. And yes, the vibe, for a significant period, was uplifting.

3. Expansion Period

Development stage. Unity enforced through repetition of mantras. These principles may seem irrational as a loyalty check.

Am I alone? The reaction, the fury, the feeling of letdown post-defeat feels overblown, overdone. The performance was poor during the match, as is typical there. It’s the British pastime of the nation, the original sports washers. And guess what, the country is a phenomenon, a series of esoteric hierarchies, a royal family remains.

The team have been enclosed in this system from a young age. Seeking change, to foster positivity, they are just repeating their upbringing, building another enclosure, a limited community, however with a modern squad and a leader promoting authenticity if you fit the mold.

Stay present. Confront risks. However much you change, you remain stuck.
