Manchester United Poised to Secure German Striker Lea Schüller away from the Bavarian Giants
The Women's Super League club are finalising completing the signing for prolific German forward Lea Schüller in a permanent move away from the Frauen-Bundesliga champions.
A Major Signing for United
The forward, with six months left on her contract, is known as a consistent goalscorer for both club and country. Having scored more than 100 goals for the German giants and scored 54 times in 82 appearances for her country. Her arrival will be seen as a marquee coup for the Women’s Super League side.
Departure from Munich has been anticipated since she was seen holding back emotions while thanking the club's supporters following a victory over Bayer Leverkusen this month.
It was reported in December that the Frauen-Bundesliga was set to lose one of its top forwards. Per reports, the formalities for the transfer are now finalised.
Reliable Goal Threat to Boost United's Attack
The experienced striker's arrival should represent a significant boost to the team's attacking options. She has been remarkably reliable in front of goal in the Bundesliga.
- Over seven consecutive seasons, up to and including the most recent campaign, she reached at least a double-figures tally of league goals.
- She claimed the Golden Boot in 2021-22 season with 16 goals.
Gathering Momentum at Carrington
The acquisition of the German international comes at a time when the club appear to be gathering momentum.
Recent on-pitch successes feature qualifying for the European knockout phase playoffs in a seeded position and a victory in the Conti Cup quarter-finals.
Off the pitch, the winter break has seen additional business:
- The acquisition of Swedish defender Hanna Lundkvist on a three-and-a-half-year deal.
- The contract extension for Japanese playmaker Hinata Miyazawa, who has become popular figure since arriving in 2023.
On the midfielder's extension, a club official commented: “Miyazawa is now a vital component to the way we play. Her understanding of the game and technical ability allows her and the team to control and dictate play from the middle of the park.”
Lundkvist, who has joined from a side from the American league, added: “You can feel how much the club have progressed in the last few years, competing in one of the strongest leagues in the world and now featuring in the Champions League.”
