Pep Guardiola has admitted feeling "shame" after an exchange with a TV crew member in the wake of the Citizens' 2-1 defeat at Newcastle on Saturday.

When the match concluded, an emotional Guardiola entered the St James’ Park pitch and had heated discussions with match official Sam Barrott and Newcastle’s Bruno Guimarães, while also handling the broadcast crew's equipment.

"I apologised," the manager remarked. "I feel embarrassed, ashamed, looking back. It's not acceptable. I apologised after one second to the cameraman. I am who I am. After 1,000 games I'm far from perfect, I make huge mistakes."

"One thing is certain, I stand by my team and club, that’s for sure. The reason why I want to defend my team is no doubt – because from my experience to win the Premier League we have to do 100 points, high nineties, or we fall short."

Team Standing and Guardiola's Assessment

The team sits in third and trail leaders Arsenal by seven points following their fourth loss of the season. "Four defeats in twelve matches means we must do better," Guardiola admitted. "Technically, we can to win everything."

When questioned about a potential quadruple could be achieved, he responded: "You are an experienced journalist, did you hear my talk discuss four trophies last winter during our historic run? Never."

Exchange with Bruno

On the subject of his talk with Guimarães, Guardiola said: "We have known Bruno for many years and every time after the game, even at the Etihad, we converse. Our paths always cross and I always have a good relationship. I love it. I'm passionate, I like discussing and gesticulate."

He wouldn't mind should a rival coach spoke to his players immediately after a game. "Not if it's respectful like I always have done, it’s not a problem," he said, mentioning the referee. "The referee was involved for 95 minutes, 98 minutes, he was involved. My God, he was involved."

Controversial Decisions

City were unhappy that the officials did not award City a penalty on a Schär tackle against Foden, and doubted if Guimarães was offside when Harvey Barnes scored Newcastle’s 70th-minute winner. Pictures published later show he was level.

Next Big Match

He will manage his century in Europe versus Leverkusen this week. "That's impressive, showing we compete annually," he commented.
