Lawmakers from the Democratic party expressed outrage after Donald Trump alleged a contingent of Democratic congress members of being "betrayers" and declared they should be taken into custody and punished "by death" following their publication of a contentious video.

The Recording That Triggered the Debate

The recorded message, published on earlier this week, showcases six Democratic elected officials who in the past served in defense or defense positions.

"Similar to us, you all swore an pledge to protect and defend this national charter," the representatives declared in the short video. "And right now, the risks to our democratic foundation aren't just from overseas, but from domestically. Our statutes are unambiguous, you can reject improper directives, you can reject unlawful commands, you have to refuse unlawful commands. No one has to execute orders that violate the law or our founding principles."

Donald Trump's Furious Reaction

The clip appeared to provoke a furious reaction from the former president.

On Thursday morning, Trump posted on his preferred platform: "This represents SEDITIOUS BEHAVIOR AT THE HIGHEST LEVEL. Each one of these turncoats to our Country should be ARRESTED AND PUT ON TRIAL."

In a separate publication, he stated: "This constitutes really concerning, and Harmful to our Nation. Their comments cannot be enabled to persist. SEDITIOUS BEHAVIOR FROM TRAITORS!!! LOCK THEM UP???"

In a additional publication, he continued: "SEDITIOUS BEHAVIOR, liable by DEATH!" He also reposted a statement that read: "HANG THEM GEORGE WASHINGTON WOULD !!"

Opposition Leaders Respond

Following Trump's comments on that day, Top Democrats issued a combined statement denouncing the remarks.

"Political violence has no position in the United States," they stated. "Representatives who participated in the video all worked our United States with great loyalty and honor. We strongly condemn Donald Trump's disgusting and harmful death threats against members of Congress, and call on House Republicans to strongly do the same."

The party representatives also stated that they had been in contact with protective services "to make certain the protection of these officials and their loved ones."

"Donald Trump must immediately delete these unhinged social media posts and retract his violent discourse before he leads to violence," the declaration continued.

Lawmakers' Firm Reaction

The representatives who participated in the video also published a response.

"We identify as former service members and defense specialists who love this United States and swore an oath to safeguard and uphold the founding document of the United States," they declared. "That oath is permanent, and we aim to keep it. No intimidation, coercion, or incitement will prevent us from that sacred responsibility."

"The most revealing aspect is that the ex-president considers it liable to punishment by death for us to reiterate the law," they added. "Armed forces members should understand that we have their support as they execute their vow to the founding principles and obligation to obey only legal commands. It is not only the correct thing to do, but also our responsibility."

They continued: "Every American must unite and censure the president's requests for our execution and ideological conflict. This is a period for principled stance."

More Governmental Comments

The Democratic Senate minority leader also condemned Trump's remarks and published on online networks: "It's important to understand: the ex-commander in chief is demanding the capital punishment of elected officials."

He added: "This constitutes an direct THREAT. Every Senator, all representatives, every American – irrespective of political affiliation – should condemn this right away and absolutely."

The Republican House speaker defended Trump's allegation that the Democrats had been involved in "rebellion", labeling the video as "extremely improper", stating: "This constitutes very harmful, you have prominent officials of Congress advising troops to disobey orders, I think that represents unprecedented in US history."

The Republican leader also allegedly stated to journalists that in what he read of Trump's publications, Trump was "explaining the violation of sedition" but that "lawyers have to analyze the wording and decide all that."
