American Armed Forces Executes Lethal Attack in Pacific, Resulting in Four Deaths

As stated by a high-ranking defense official, the American armed forces carried out a fatal kinetic engagement on a vessel in the eastern Pacific, resulting in the deaths of four people.

“A US joint task force carried out a lethal kinetic strike on a vessel operated by a terrorist group in international waters. Surveillance verified the vessel was traveling along a known drug smuggling route and was engaged in illicit drug transport. All four male drug traffickers were eliminated, and no US military forces were harmed.”

Context and Prior Strikes

The statement follows a day after a declaration regarding a blockade of all sanctioned oil tankers to and from Venezuela. In that announcement on online platforms, the American leader accused Venezuela of using oil revenues to fund drug trafficking and criminal activities, pledging to increase the military buildup.

Only on the previous day, US defense officials stated it had carried out strikes on three boats suspected of smuggling narcotics in the Pacific, leading to the deaths of eight people. Beginning on 2 September, over 20 military engagements have killed at least 99 people, the majority off the coast of Venezuela.

Government Justifies Tactics Amidst Pressure

The administration has faced growing demands to make public video of a September 2nd vessel attack. But, officials have declined to do so. The administration has supported its campaign as a success, saying it has prevented drugs from entering US shores and has pushed back on concerns that it is exceeding the bounds of legal military action.

While the administration has stated the campaign is about halting drugs headed to the US, remarks from a senior aide seemed to confirm a broader political aim. In a recent interview, the chief of staff said the president “wants to keep on blowing boats up until Venezuela's president cries uncle.”

This suggests the military campaign may be part of a push to oust Venezuela's current government.
