Adult Swim's Leading New Show of 2025 Gets a Substantial Renewal for Two More Seasons.

In October of last year, Adult Swim debuted a new season of its quirky hit, Smiling Friends. But, later that same month, the channel launched a completely new animated series with a strikingly different vibe. Haha, You Clowns was heartwarming and calm, evoking a animated take of a laid-back talk show. During a period often defined by dark humor, this show's sincerity resonated deeply and turned it into a breakout hit.

A Major Commitment

On December 18th, the network confirmed a big renewal: Haha, You Clowns has been greenlit for two additional seasons. This gives showrunner Joe Cappa significant creative freedom to develop the story of the Campbell family. The show focuses on three well-mannered teenage brothers whose primary trait is their deep love for their widowed father, with Cappa portraying for all four central characters.

"I am incredibly thankful to the fans of the show who welcomed the series and helped it grow," stated Cappa. "I’m incredibly thrilled that I get to hang out at the Campbell household for a little longer."

Network Praise

In the same announcement praise from Adult Swim president Michael Ouweleen, who called the series as "radically heartfelt and strangely uncanny." He specifically highlighted the fans who found the show and championed its peculiarly charming style.

"All of you showed up for this new show, rooted for it on social media, and expanded its audience week over week so we could greenlight not one, but two more seasons," noted Ouweleen. "As the show says: 'You are strong! You are loved!'"

A Different Kind of Comedy

Upon its debut, Haha, You Clowns was praised as "a comforting antidote" to other adult animated fare. It offers something unexpectedly cozy about following this charming family navigate their simple existence.

At the time, creator Joe Cappa stated his hope to move the comedy genre beyond its long-running sarcastic tone. He traced this trend to various cultural shifts.

“There's this level of irony that we are trapped in,” noted Cappa. “It feels as if we have to know we’re the cleverest viewer in the room when we're watching stuff. I feel like we've been doing this for 10 years, and we just have to laugh at something different now. Comedy has to evolve.”

The Path Forward

With this renewal, with Haha, You Clowns set to continue, Cappa may well catalyze that very evolution. At a minimum, the renewal guarantees audiences more opportunities to enjoy the heartfelt moments of the unique Campbell clan.

The first season's conclusion of Haha, You Clowns airs on December 21st. The complete first season is available for streaming on HBO Max.
